New K‑State Extension publication helps identify and manage chrysanthemum aphid

K‑State Extension bookstore has released a new publication to help greenhouse growers and plant managers identify and manage chrysanthemum aphid. Chrysanthemum aphid is a small insect pest that feeds only on chrysanthemum plants grown in greenhouse production systems.

Chrysanthemum aphid, also known as Macrosiphoniella sanborni, spreads quickly in a short period of time, so taking action in a timely manner is critical to minimizing chrysanthemum plant damage. The two‑page, full‑color publication explains the aphid’s biology, the damage it causes and how to scout for problems early. It also includes management options, such as removing heavily infested plants, using insecticides when needed and considering green lacewing larvae early in production.

The publication, Chrysanthemum Aphid: Insect Pest of Chrysanthemum Plants (MF3725), is available to read or download for free from the K-State Extension Bookstore.
