New K‑State Extension publication helps identify and manage European red mite
K‑State Extension bookstore has released a new publication to help people who care for fruit trees identify and manage European red mite. European red mite is a common pest that can damage fruit trees such as apple, cherry, peach, pear, plum and prune.
European red mite, also known as Panonychus ulmi, has been present in the United States for more than 100 years and is found across the country. The two‑page, full‑color publication explains the mite’s biology, the damage it causes and how to scout for problems early. It also includes management options and information about miticides that may be used when needed.
The publication, European Red Mite: Pest of Fruit Trees (MF3723), is available to read or download for free from the K‑State Extension bookstore.
