Zoom licensing changes in effect for faculty and staff

K-State has updated its Zoom licensing to better align with the university’s needs while addressing significant increases in software licensing costs.

Zoom discontinued its education licensing tier in favor of new pricing models that significantly increased costs for K-State and other regent institutions. As a result, the university transitioned to a new licensing model.

Effective immediately, all full-time faculty and staff and any part-time employees with a teaching appointment, receive a Zoom Full license. Emeritus faculty and staff, part-time non-teaching employees, and currently enrolled students receive a Zoom Basic license.

Zoom Full License

The Zoom Full license includes:

  • Meetings up to 30 hours in length when the host is present.
  • Zoom AI Companion.
  • Local and cloud recording.

Zoom Basic License

The Zoom Basic license includes:

  • Meetings up to 40 minutes with two or more participants.
  • Meetings up to 30 hours in length when only the host is present.
  • Attend Zoom meetings hosted by others.
  • Local recording.

The Zoom Basic license does not include:

  • Cloud recording.
  • Zoom AI Companion.

Consider Microsoft Teams for meetings

Microsoft Teams is an alternative option for groups, units and departments seeking to collaborate. Microsoft Teams includes meetings, file sharing, recordings, transcription, whiteboards and other tools.
