Motor Pool update: Changes to fuel charges effective Nov. 1

Due to rising operational costs, the Kansas State University Motor Pool is making a change to fuel charges beginning Nov. 1. Fuel purchased during travel will no longer be included in the daily rental fee.

With this change, renters and their respective departments will be responsible for fuel costs incurred during their trips. If you use the Business Procurement Card, or BPC, provided with your vehicle to purchase fuel, those charges will be billed separately to the renter or responsible department.

Here’s what to expect:

  • A full tank at pickup: Every vehicle will still be provided with a full tank of gas when you pick it up.
  • No need to refuel before returning: You do not need to refill the vehicle’s gas tank before returning it to the Motor Pool.
  • Emergency coverage remains in place: BPC cards will continue to be available in each vehicle to cover emergency repairs or towing services needed during your trip.

Even with this change, Motor Pool daily rental rates remain significantly lower than those of commercial car rental companies, helping K-State continue to offer a cost-effective option for university-approved travel.

If you have questions or need help planning an upcoming trip, please contact the Motor Pool office at 785-532-6397.
