Upcoming awards and professional development opportunities from the provost's office
The Office of the Provost is accepting nominations for several university awards, fellowships and institutes with October deadlines, including the University Distinguished Professor award, the Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars award, the Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program, and summer 2027 and academic year 26-27 leadership/management institutes.

University Distinguished Professor: Deadline Oct. 1
The lifetime title of University Distinguished Professor is the highest honor Kansas State University can bestow upon its faculty. The award recognizes those making outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and service to their professions and communities. Any tenured K-State faculty member can make nominations for the award by Oct. 1.
The award is coordinated through the provost's office in conjunction with the university distinguished professor group. The coordinating group will consider new appointments to this title for 2027. In addition to this distinguished title, each appointee shall receive an enhancement of $12,000 added to their base salaries with funds provided through the provost's office. Nomination packages should be submitted to udpnominations@k-state.edu by Oct. 1. Late or incomplete nomination packages will not be considered.
Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars: Deadline Oct. 1
The Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars recognizes the outstanding scholarship of teaching and learning exhibited by faculty members in our departments and colleges. The Coffman Chair website describes eligibility criteria, the nomination and selection process, timeline, and the portfolio to be submitted by each nominee.
The designation of University Distinguished Teaching Scholar is a permanent title and honors not only the individual faculty member but also the department and college in which they teach. The year as Coffman Chair provides an opportunity for the awardee to share ideas and strategies about teaching and learning with the university at large.
The selection process begins at the department level. Eligible faculty members prepare and submit their portfolios to the department head. Once the department reviews the portfolios, each department head forwards one nomination to the dean by Sept. 15. Each department will set its own internal deadline for receipt of portfolios from the faculty. Each dean then reviews the portfolios submitted by the departments in their college and may submit a total of two nominations. The nomination package should be submitted to provounivawards@k-state.edu by Oct. 1.
Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program: Deadline Oct. 1
The 2027 Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program provides philanthropic support to scholars and writers for high-caliber research in the humanities and social sciences.
To be eligible, K-State nominees must have a Ph.D., hold a terminal degree other than a Ph.D. or be a high-level professional with exceptional experience that qualifies them as a senior professional or intellectual.
Applications must be sent to your dean's office by no later than Sept. 25. Deans must prepare a letter cosigned by the appropriate department heads, and then final applications, including the letter, are due to the Office of the Provost via Microsoft Form by Oct. 1. Each applicant should submit their complete applications through the form.
A selection committee of university distinguished professors will review the applications and select one or two candidates to recommend to the president by Oct. 25.
Summer leadership/management institutes: Due by Oct. 15
The Office of the Provost is excited to invite applications from faculty members or administrators to attend leadership/management development programs during either summer 2027 or the 2027-2028 academic year, depending on the program dates.
The level of support provided by the Office of the Provost to a particular nominee will depend both on the number of nominees selected and any additional support that can be provided by the nominee's unit or college. Sources of additional funding should be identified and included in the application, and they will need to be confirmed once a nominee has been selected. Fees for each program range from approximately $2,500 to $9,000, not including travel.
The following programs require that applicants be officially sponsored by K-State's Office of the Provost. Deadline for submission via Microsoft Form is Oct. 15.
