Navigate summer improvements
Construction and road closures on the Manhattan campus
Summer is a busy season for construction and maintenance across the Manhattan campus, and several projects will be underway to improve campus spaces. For a helpful visual, check out the construction and maintenance map.
Construction zones
While on campus this summer, please follow posted detours and use extra caution in construction zones, where large trucks and equipment will be active. Here’s what to expect:
- Renovation of Thompson Hall will begin at the end of May and continue through 2026. Once completed, it will house the Division of Information Technology.
- Work will continue on Mid-Campus Drive west of Anderson Hall and Fairchild Hall, with completion anticipated this fall, weather permitting. Goldstein Circle will be used as a staging area.
- The Coffman Commons Patio will be transformed into a study garden starting in mid-May, with completion expected by the fall semester.
- Construction will take place behind the Power Plant, including areas around Chiller Plant 1, Facilities Grounds and Ward Hall.
- Renovations at the Strong Complex will continue, including the installation of chilled water systems, which will impact areas near Putnam Hall and Van Zile Hall.
- The Western Star Global Grain and Food Center project will remain active throughout the summer.
- The C2 parking lot on Olympic Drive will be affected by nearby construction east of the Chester E. Peters Recreation Center and north of Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
- Additional construction will occur east and south of the Bioprocessing & Industrial Value Added Products Innovation, or BIVAP, Center.
Parking lot maintenance
Between June and August, several parking lots will be resurfaced or maintained, weather permitting. Signs will be posted in advance with specific dates and details. Affected areas include:
- Lots E1 and E16 near the Alumni Center
- Lot B12 in front of Call Hall
- Lot B1 south of the Recycling Center
- Lot B16 west of Chiller Plant 2
- Lot B18 west of the Center for Child Development
- The lot in front of Mary and Carl Ice Hall
- Lots east and south of the Institute for Commercialization
Sidewalk maintenance
Sidewalk repairs will take place in phases from mid-May through July. Detour signage will help guide pedestrians safely around work zones. Areas impacted include:
- Sidewalks north of the K-State Student Union
- Sidewalks south of the union and north of the K-State Parking Garage
- Both stairways on the west side of Willard Hall
The Division of Facilities appreciates everyone's patience and flexibility as these improvements take place and help enhance the campus experience.
