Volunteers needed for women's rehabilitation research
Women ages 40-65 are invited to participate in a rehabilitation research study at Kansas State University examining how the muscles and nervous system adapt to seven days of wrist casting followed by 14 days of rehabilitation.
Researchers are seeking women who are free from neurological, metabolic and cardiovascular disease and willing to wear a wrist cast on their non-dominant arm for seven days. Participants will complete six at-home resistance training sessions over two weeks to help restore wrist strength, along with five campus visits for testing. The total time commitment for testing will be around 12 hours.
Study procedures will include wrist strength testing, transcranial magnetic stimulation, measures of neural activation, ultrasound imaging, one DXA scan, one blood draw and two arm CT scans.
Participants can receive up to $500 in compensation. Participants will also receive health-related feedback, including DXA scan results, hormone profile information and performance testing data.
This study will help advance women's health research and improve rehabilitation strategies for women in midlife. This study has received IRB approval No. 12503.
