Hosein Baboly honored as Faculty of the Week

Kansas State University honored Hosein Baboly, teaching associate professor in the Alan Levin Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, as the Faculty of the Week at the men's home basketball game on March 3.

Hosein Baboly smiles for a portait in a blue button-up polo.Baboly joined K-State in 2019 and teaches Engineering Graphics, a course that serves more than 250 students each year. In addition to this course, he has developed and taught Advanced Engineering Graphics, in which students can earn professional certifications from SolidWorks — a credential held by fewer than 500 people in Kansas.

Baboly has created several new courses and labs in solid mechanics that have quickly gained popularity among students. Recognizing the importance of hands-on learning in engineering, he has invested significant effort in bringing modern equipment and resources into the classroom, making a real impact on student learning.

In addition to teaching, Baboly is passionate about integrating new tools and technologies into his curriculum to better prepare students for industry demands. One newly offered course, Experimental Strength of Materials, has doubled in enrollment over just two semesters and is now offered in multiple sessions. In addition, the new coordinating equipment benefits students, faculty and staff by expanding the scope of projects that can be undertaken.

Baboly enjoys mentoring, supporting students' academic growth and helping them realize their potential as future engineers. He currently co-advises the SAE Formula Team, Powercat Motorsports.

Under his leadership, the team hosted the first-ever Formula Wheat competition, which boosted K-State's visibility in the national automotive community, welcomed several teams from different universities and established an annual tradition. This year, the team will host the event for the third consecutive year, which has helped build valuable industry partnerships for K-State. Beyond their home event, the team competed in an international Formula SAE event and achieved its highest ranking in 25 years — finishing 4th overall out of more than 100 teams.

"Being part of the K-State community is deeply rewarding," said Baboly. "I value the opportunity to contribute to our students' success and to work alongside colleagues who are equally dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and service."

The Faculty and Professional Staff of the Week recognitions are coordinated by Faculty Senate, the Office of the President and K-State Athletics. Recipients are selected by Faculty Senate caucuses, provided tickets to a home basketball game of their choice and honored during halftime as a small token of appreciation for their service to K-State.
