Graduate workshop series offers tips and tools for research success

Join K-State Libraries for The Library and Your Research, a free workshop series co-sponsored by the Graduate Student Council that helps graduate students enhance and professionalize their scholarly pursuits.

The sessions take place from 1:30-2:30 p.m. via Zoom. Please register for each session through the sign-up form.

  • Monday, Oct. 13: "AI Tools for Literature Reviews." Can literature reviews be fun? With AI tools such as Ai2 Scholar QA, Elicit, SciSpace, Perplexity, Undermind and Research Rabbit, the answer is yes — provided you use them appropriately. In this workshop, you will learn how to quickly and easily augment traditional discovery methods by visualizing relationships among articles, finding articles based on similarity, and summarizing and extracting information of interest.
  • Monday, Oct. 20: "Making Your Literature Review More Systematic." Thinking about starting a systematic, scoping or mapping review? These review types require systematic, rigorous and reproducible search strategies. This workshop will cover how to plan, execute and document your literature search using conduct and reporting guidelines.
  • Monday, Oct. 27: "Publishing with Purpose: An Introduction to Scholarly Publishing and Copyright for Graduate Researchers." This session offers a foundational overview of scholarly publishing and copyright tailored for graduate students navigating the academic publishing landscape. From understanding the lifecycle of a scholarly article to exploring the nuances of author rights, open access and publisher agreements, participants will gain practical insights into how scholarly communication shapes research visibility and impact. The session will also address key copyright considerations, including fair use, licensing options, and how to ethically reuse and share scholarly work. Whether you're preparing your first manuscript or curious about publishing norms, this session will equip you with the knowledge to make informed decisions about where and how to publish your work.

An additional session is available in November. View the full schedule and recordings of previous sessions on the Graduate Student Workshops website.
