Chang named interim department head of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering
Shing I. Chang, acting department head and professor of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering, or IMSE, at Kansas State University, has been named interim department head by interim dean Bradley Kramer, effective Oct. 27.
Chang replaces Kramer, who left his post to assume the duties of interim dean in June. Chang joined the IMSE department in 1991 and holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, a master's degree in industrial and management engineering from Arizona State University and a doctorate in industrial and systems engineering from Ohio State University.
"I am grateful for Shing's willingness to serve in this capacity as interim department head," said Kramer. "I am confident in his ability to lead the IMSE faculty, staff and students during this important time of transition for the college and know he will advance the critical work they do."
Chang's research focuses on data analytics and quality engineering methods applied to manufacturing and health care systems. His current projects include developing agentic AI for scam detection among the elderly, applying statistical monitoring to big data in manufacturing, enhancing 3D printing quality through cyber manufacturing and using entropy-based monitoring to prevent elderly falls with data from Microsoft Kinect and Fitbit devices.
