Upcoming deadlines for university awards and professional development opportunities

The Office of the Provost is now accepting nominations through Wednesday, Oct. 1, for the University Distinguished Professor Award and the Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholar Award.

Additionally, applications for the Andrew Carnegie Fellows program need to be submitted by Friday, Oct. 10.

Applications for summer 2026 and 2026-2027 academic year leadership and management institutes are due Wednesday, Oct. 15.

University Distinguished Professor nominations

The provost's office, in coordination with K-State's university distinguished professor group, will consider new appointments to the title of university distinguished professor — K-State's highest honor for faculty — for 2026.

In addition to the distinguished title, each appointee receives an enhancement of $10,000 added to their base salaries, with funds provided through the provost's office.

More details are available nomination guidelines and selection process webpages.

Nominations of outstanding faculty who meet the criteria of university distinguished professor can be made by any tenured K-State faculty member.

The nomination package should be submitted to udpnominations@k-state.edu by Oct. 1. Late or incomplete nomination packages will not be considered.

Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars applications

The Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars is a title that recognizes faculty scholars who demonstrate K-State's commitment to excellence in teaching and learning across the university's departments and colleges.

Faculty members are appointed as chair for one academic year but retain the title of university distinguished teaching scholar permanently.

During the year they hold the chair, the teaching scholars develop ideas and strategies about teaching and learning to share with the university at large.

The selection process begins at the department level. Eligible faculty members prepare and submit their portfolios to the department head, the department reviews the portfolios, and then each department head forwards one nomination to the dean by Sept. 15.

Each department will set its own internal deadline for receipt of portfolios from the faculty. Each dean then reviews the portfolios submitted by the departments in their college and may submit two nominations to the provost by the deadline of Oct. 1.

All materials should be sent electronically as a PDF file to provounivawards@k-state.edu.

More information is available on the Coffman chair nomination website.

Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program

The 2026 Andrew Carnegie Fellows program provides philanthropic support to scholars and writers for high-caliber research in the humanities and social sciences. The Carnegie Corporation of New York plans to award around 30 fellowships of up to $200,000 each to extraordinary scholars, authors, journalists and public intellectuals.

To be eligible, K-State nominees must have a doctorate, hold a terminal degree other than a Ph.D., or be a high-level professional with exceptional experience that qualifies them as a senior professional or intellectual.

Applications are due to the Office of the Provost via Microsoft Form by Oct. 10 and must be received by your dean’s office by no later than Oct. 2.

A selection committee composed of university distinguished professors will review the applications and select one or two candidates to recommend to the university president by Oct. 27.

Summer leadership and management institutes

The Office of the Provost invites applications from faculty members or administrators to attend leadership and management development programs during the summer 2026 and 2026-2027 academic year, depending on the program dates.

The level of support provided by the Office of the Provost to a particular nominee will depend both on the number of nominees selected and any additional support that can be provided by the nominee's unit or college. Sources of additional funding should be identified and included in the application and will need to be confirmed once a nominee has been selected. Fees for each program range from approximately $2,500 to $9,000, not including travel.

Opportunities for 2026 can be found at the Higher Education Resource Services and Harvard websites for the Management Development Program and the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education page. It should be noted that all the following programs require that applicants be officially sponsored by K-State's Office of the Provost. Deadline for submission via Microsoft Form is Oct. 15.

The Office of the Provost look forward to receiving nominations and applications. Contact provounivawards@k-state.edu with any questions.
