Geography and geospatial sciences department awards scholarships

The department of geography and geospatial sciences recognized 18 students for more than $31,500 in departmental awards at its annual reception on Tuesday, May 6. In addition, the chapter of the Gamma Theta Upsilon welcomed the new members that will support knowledge of geography and awareness.
The following students are recipients of the 2025 Department of Geography & Geospatial Sciences Awards:
- Emily Stewart, junior, Seyler Undergraduate GIScience Scholarship
- Michael Pegg, master's student; Mostafa Sadeghnejad, doctoral student; and Harsimran Sodhi, doctoral student, Milton and Emma Jean Raffertty GTU Geography Scholarship
- Neda Mohamadzadeh and Clay Robertson, doctoral students, White Geography Graduate Teaching Assistant Excellence Award
- Max Wellbrock-Talley, master's student, Hartington Family Geography Scholarship
- Sande Williams, master's student, and Duncan Young, senior, William D. Grimm Memorial Scholarship
- Colby Ifland, senior; Mark Lexow, junior; Garrett Splichal, senior; and Hayden Splichal, senior, Robert H. Williams Undergraduate Geography Scholarship
- Garret Splichal, National Council for Geographic Education Excellence/American Association of Geographers Excellence Award
- Hayden Splichal and Joaquin Sporleder, junior, Huber Self Geography Scholarship
- Sabrina Johnson, senior, Linda Patterson Geography Scholarship
- Michael Madin, doctoral student, Department of Geography and Geospatial Sciences Leadership Award
- Mark Lexow, junior, Steve Kale Undergraduate Research Fellowship
