Free vehicle inspections for students preparing to travel

If you're packing up and leaving town for the summer or going on a road trip between semesters, it's important to have your vehicle inspected beforehand.

Parking Services offers free vehicle inspections on the roof of the Kansas State University parking garage during finals week, from 3-5 p.m. on May 12-16. Stop by to check your oil and transmission fluids and have your windshield wiper fluid topped off.

It's also important to check your tires before a long trip. Ensure they are in good condition and properly inflated, and remember to inspect the spare tire. Verify that you have a jack and all necessary equipment in case you need to change a tire.

Depending on your vehicle's condition and its last service date, you may also want to examine your battery, brakes, lights and wiper blades. Consider getting an oil change, replacing filters and having a general inspection of the belts and hoses. Many mechanics and retailers throughout the city can offer these services.
