The Kansas State University Department of Computer Science and the Advancing Learning and Teaching in Computer Science, or ALT+CS, laboratory are proud to host the third annual Computer Science Education for Kansas, CS4KS, conference May 28-31.

This conference brings Kansas K-12 teachers together with computer science and education faculty and disciplinary computing experts for four days to explore best practices, emerging trends and hands-on strategies for teaching computer science.

This year features hands-on workshops on topics like AI, virtual reality, game development, unplugged activities, web development and curriculum design; panel discussions centered on the use of AI in education and teacher experiences; and two keynote speakers.

The first keynote “Belonging is the First Line of Code” will be given by Brianne Caplan, founder of Code Your Dreams, a nonprofit seeking to democratize access to CS and tech education worldwide. She will also be hosting a workshop, “From the Margins to the Mainframe: Reclaiming Tech for Every Learner.”

The second keynote will be given by Karen Eppley, a former fifth-grade teacher, an associate teaching professor of education at Penn State College of Education and editor for the Journal for Research in Rural Education. Eppley will also be hosting a workshop, “Why Rural Matters.”

Full conference and registration details can be found on the conference website.
