The College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University recently presented the 2025 Dr. William and Deanna Pritchard Veterinary Service and Outreach Award to Daniela Hernandez, clinical assistant professor in the department of diagnostic medicine and pathobiology.

The award was established in 2012 to recognize an outstanding faculty member who, through their service and outreach, contributes significantly to the advancement of the veterinary profession.

"Dr. Daniela Hernandez exemplifies true public service as the sole clinical pathologist," said Jamie Retallick, director of the Kansas Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. "Since fall 2022, she has completed over 10,000 cases with a great attitude, serving clients, students and trainees."

Hernandez currently teaches pathology courses and rotations and co-supervises an internship for the Kansas Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

"I have greatly enjoyed being of service, and I hope to continue doing so," Hernandez said. "I am honored and very happy to receive this award. I would also like to thank the clinical pathology team of medical laboratory technicians and veterinary diagnostic medicine interns; without them, I would not be able to do my everyday work."

Hernandez earned her bachelor's degree in veterinary science in 2008 at Universidad de Guadalajara. She earned her master's in veterinary medicine in the field of veterinary clinical pathology at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in 2013. She completed a clinical pathology residency at Cornell University in 2018 and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists - Clinical Pathology in that same year.

Hernandez worked as a veterinary clinical pathologist at City University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Kowloon, Hong Kong, from 2019 to 2022. She is a member of the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology, the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, the Oncology-Pathology Working Group, the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and the Davis-Thompson Foundation. From 2019 to 2022, she was a member of the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong.
