Katie Loughmiller to lead GE Johnson Department of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science

Wednesday, May 28, 2025

Katie Loughmiller, associate professor and acting head of the GE Johnson Department of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science, has been named to the permanent role of department head, effective June 6.

The announcement was made by Matt O'Keefe, dean of the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, after an internal search. Loughmiller replaces Ray Buyle, who retired in April after 17 years at K-State.

"Katie is an excellent choice to lead the architectural engineering and construction science department," O'Keefe said. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and industry experience to this role, and I am confident in her ability to sustain the excellence of this department going forward through strong and thoughtful leadership."

Loughmiller spent 12 years in the industry before earning a master's from North Dakota State University in 2015 and a doctorate from K-State in 2024. Her research interests include women in construction, scheduling, and cost control and finance.
