Kansas State University modern languages students were inducted into various honor societies this spring.

On April 18, French honor society Pi Delta Phi inducted 11 new members: Kristine Gevock, Julia Robbe, Natasha Holmberg, Khloe Kuckelman, Hannah Burns, Mallary Schwarz, Brenna Schmidt, Josie Brooks, McKenna Wise, Kutina Cabrera and Alyssa Sukup. Pi Delta Phi is the national French honor society for undergraduate and graduate students at accredited public and private colleges and universities in the United States. The highest academic honor in French and the oldest academic honor society for a modern foreign language in the United States, Pi Delta Phi was founded as a departmental honor society at the University of California, Berkeley in 1906. The society was nationalized when the Beta Chapter was established at the University of Southern California in 1925. The American Association of Teachers of French officially endorsed the society as the only collegiate French honor society in 1949.

The purpose of the society is to recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and Francophone literatures, to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world, and to stimulate and encourage French and Francophone cultural activities.

The ceremony also honored recipients of the Allison Benson Memorial Scholarship, which honors the memory of K-State student and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority member Allison Marjorie Benson, who passed away in 2020. The 2025-2026 scholarship recipients are Mallorie Wisbey, majoring in French and art, who will be studying abroad this summer; Kaia James, majoring in French and business, who will be studying abroad this fall; and Alyssa Sukup, majoring in French and art, who will be studying abroad in the spring.

On March 24, Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, welcomed seven members: Laura Armbruster, Maggie Banhart, Emma Hamilton, Annie McCord, Naomi Downes, Bethany Reinsch and Mercedes Quetzeri Amandi. The recently inducted students and current members are looking forward to their involvement in different activities and events in the fall, such as hosting a poetry contest and setting up an authentic ofrenda to commemorate El Día de los Muertos.

On April 18, the German honor society Delta Phi Alpha inducted eight new members: Chloe Bramble, Jaden Hutton, Gabe Mohacsi, Cady Watson, Ethan Senne, Ezekiel Hook, Kim Remily and Matthew Schnaare. Delta Phi Alpha is the National German Honor Society, a collegiate honorary society for German studies. It was founded in 1929 and has over 300 chapters at colleges and universities in the United States. The society aims to recognize excellence in the study of German, encourage higher scholarship and promote the study of German language, literature and culture.
