Purple Masque Theatre presents 'Rx,' a quirky comedy all about love

Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013

MANHATTAN -- The second production in Kansas State University's 2013-2014 Purple Masque Theatre season will be "Rx." The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 1-2. The Purple Masque Theatre, a part of the K-State Theatre program, is in East Stadium.

Written by Kate Fodor, "Rx" is a quirky comedy about romance in the age of prescription drugs. Meena Pierotti's job is making her unhappy. Luckily, there's a pill for that. Well, not yet. But Meena has joined the clinical trial for a new drug targeting workplace depression. The trial gets messy when she falls in love with her doctor, who is trying to enroll into a drug trial targeting heartbreak.

Amanda Garvey, junior in theatre, Topeka, will direct "Rx."

Tickets are $7 for the general public, seniors and military, and $4 for students, plus tax. They can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by phone at 785-532-6428; fees will apply to phone orders.

Along with Garvey, students in cast and crew for "Rx" include:

James Sherwood, senior in theatre and accounting, Derby, as Ed and Richard; Chase Rossman, freshman in psychology, Gardner, as Simon; Drew Reisner, junior in theatre, Hoisington, lighting design; Kelsey Coffroth, sophomore in elementary education and theatre, Louisburg, as Allison; Katelyn Gustafson, sophomore in apparel and textile design, Overland Park, costume design; Catherine Huck, sophomore in theatre, Scott City, as Meena; Emily Barnhill, junior in theatre, Spring Hill, as France; and Mark Young, sophomore in theatre, as Phil, and Deborah Bruner, senior in secondary education-speech, set design, both from Topeka.
