Next Kansas State University Gardens Luncheon Series features 'Christmas in the Garden'

Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013

MANHATTAN -- Nationally acclaimed floral designer David Porterfield, owner of Porterfield's Flowers and Gifts in Topeka, will discuss "Christmas in the Garden" at the next Friends of the Kansas State University Gardens Luncheon Series.

His talk and benefit lunch will be at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Colbert's in the Colbert Hills Golf Course clubhouse in Manhattan, said Marti Meek, series coordinator.

Porterfield was a selected designer for President Ronald Reagan's second inaugural, the bicentennial celebration for the Statue of Liberty and the dedication of the horticulture wing of the Smithsonian Institution. A past president of the Kansas State Florists Association, he assumed ownership of Porterfield's Flowers and Gifts from his parents who began the business in 1965.

Admission is $30 per person, which includes lunch and beverage. Net proceeds benefit the Kansas State University Gardens. Deadline to register is Friday, Nov. 1.

Advance paid registration is required by calling Anne Springer at 785-532-1442 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, or email spr@k-state.edu. Please make payment to Friends of the KSU Gardens, 2021 Throckmorton Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506.
