A social affair: Students aid in planning 2012 All-University Open House events
MANHATTAN -- Before visitors start connecting at this year's social media-themed All-University Open House, Kansas State University students are volunteering their time to plan the event that includes the entire K-State community.
Students are volunteering in many different capacities for this year's All-University Open House, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in Manhattan, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Salina campus. Open house is an annual event to show the public and prospective students what the university is all about.
Interactive displays, fun activities, games, informational booths and more will highlight all aspects of K-State --including student life, research and academic programs -- through the lens of today's social media.
A group of students serve on the All-University Open House Coordinating Committee, which helps organize the event.
"Open house is an excellent opportunity to enhance leadership skills in our students," said Emily Lehning, assistant vice president for student life. "This event is a team effort where the hard work of our students, faculty and staff comes together to make a fun and education day."
"Open house is a wonderful opportunity for me to work with my peers, leaders on campus and K-State alumni," said Adrienne Besler, sophomore in elementary education, Evergreen, Colo., and the student coordinator of this year's All-University Open House. "The best part of the event is that it is primarily student-driven and student-led, giving us a chance to be creative. We get to show off the friendly, fun atmosphere that K-State is known for."

The student leaders of the K-State Salina open house are still being determined, but will also be part of a collaborative effort among student organization leaders.
