Australia's Circus Oz brings brand-new show to McCain Auditorium in February

Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014

MANHATTAN — Circus Oz has performed for more than 3.6 million people in more than 27 countries across five continents and is considered the gold standard for contemporary circus all over the world. Now these awe-inspiring Aussies will perform a new show, "But Wait…There's More," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium.

Circus Oz shows are co-created from
the inspiration, ideas and energy derived from the unique skills of each member of the extremely diverse ensemble that are then woven into the core concept
of the show like layers of a collage. For "But Wait...There's More,"an extensive casting process was undertaken across Australia's circus community, reshaping the Circus Oz ensemble and structured around an equal number of men and women with various backgrounds, skills and bodies.

"With so many new artists joining our ensemble, we were excited about the explosion of ideas and creativity that emerged through the collaborative process,"said Mike Finch, Circus Oz artistic director.

"But Wait…There's More" is performed within a spectacular large-scale set inspired by an abandoned theatre in tatters. The touring circus troupe arrives with hula showstoppers and acrobatic jaw-droppers. Members delight and entertain with new acts, satirical humor and the signature, irreverent Circus Oz style. The emcee interacts with the audience: hip-hop call and response coolness. This is live and the audience can feel the authenticity.

But there is a virus in this innocent world of acrobats and flying trapeze artists. As the need to be "more," have "more" and do "more" spreads, individuals are contaminated, realities blur and the fatigue of resistance accumulates. The commercial realities are determined to infiltrate. Everything needs to be faster, bigger, more dangerous and more ridiculous until "more" cannot be sustained.

With two hours of astonishing stunt-jumping acrobatics, cutting-edge juggling, elegant flying trapeze, cheeky impersonations, ridiculous knockabout and multiskilled human physical exuberance, "But Wait...There's More"is a circus. The show sometimes masquerades as pure entertainment, yet always celebrates the collective power of a group of fabulous, diverse humans, while satirizing the rising tide of reality television, consumerism and today's fast-paced thirst for more. All of this is entwined within original music performed by Circus Oz's live and physically acrobatic band.

Tickets to Circus Oz's "But Wait…There's More" are available now at the McCain Auditorium box office, online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain, or by calling 785-532-6428.
