Wednesday, April 9, 2014

MANHATTAN — The first organist ever nominated for a Grammy Award for a solo album will present a concert at Kansas State University.

Cameron Carpenter, a noted charismatic and accomplished organist, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in McCain Auditorium as part of the McCain Performance Series. Carpenter's approach to the organ is unlike that of stereotypical organists and organ music, generating acclaim, exposure and even controversy when it comes to classical music. Carpenter's repertoire includes work from J.S. Bach and Cesar Franck to his hundreds of transcriptions of non-organ works, original compositions and collaborations with jazz and pop artists.

Carpenter work can be seen on YouTube videos that that have achieved millions of hits and numerous television, radio, and press features, including CNN's "The Next List," "CBS Sunday Morning," the BBC's "Radio 3," New York Times, New Yorker, Wall Street Journal and many others.

Tickets for Carpenter's performance cost $16-$75, plus applicable taxes and fees, and are available now at the McCain Auditorium box office, online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain, or by calling 785-532-6428.
