Thursday, April 18, 2013

MANHATTAN -- Maureen Redeker, an attorney with experience in higher education law, has joined the Kansas State University legal team as an assistant general counsel.

Redeker will provide legal advice to university administration, faculty, staff and student leaders on the diverse range of legal issues facing higher education, such as constitutional law, employment matters, regulatory compliance, student rights, contracts, corporations, international matters, intellectual property and more.

"Maureen brings a wealth of experience and ability to K-State," said Cheryl Strecker, university general counsel. "I am very pleased that she is joining us to serve the university."

Redeker earned her Juris Doctor summa cum laude from Florida State University College of Law in 2007 and her bachelor's degree in business administration from Maryville University in St. Louis in 2004, where she was a four-year letter-winner and captain of the women's basketball team. She has a broad-based legal background, serving as law clerk for U.S. District Judge John Lungstrum in Kansas City, Kan., and working in private practice at Bryan Cave LLP, in Kansas City, Mo. She has also had extensive experience in governmental legal issues, serving as litigation attorney for Kansas Social Rehabilitation Services and as an independent contractor for the Kansas attorney general. Most recently, she has been an administrative law attorney for the U.S. Army Command in Fort Riley's judge advocate general's office.

Over the past two years, Redeker has also worked for Kansas State University as a temporary part-time staff attorney and as an independent contractor. She has handled a variety of university legal matters, including international contracts and federal research compliance.

"I have tremendously enjoyed doing legal work for the university," Redeker said. "It is a real thrill for me to continue that work full time."
