Regier golf tournament to benefit Kansas State University cancer research Oct. 18

Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019

MANHATTAN — Golfers are invited to help Kansas State University fight cancer at the 22nd annual Rob Regier Memorial Golf Tournament Friday, Oct. 18. Proceeds will support the university's Johnson Cancer Research Center.

The tournament honors Rob Regier, a 1988 graduate of K-State in pre-dentistry who died of cancer at age 26. It is hosted by his mother, Sandy Regier, and his brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Juli Regier, all of Overland Park. The Regiers have raised more than $356,000 for the university's cancer research and education programs.

This year's tournament will be dedicated in memory of Rob Denell, the former director of the Johnson Cancer Research Center, and Bill Trenkle, a close friend of the Regier family, both of whom died of cancer this past year.

The four-person scramble will be at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, with registration opening at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A steak dinner and prize disbursements will take place in Colbert's restaurant immediately following the tournament. Prizes will be awarded to top teams, hole-contest winners and more.

Preregistration is requested by Oct. 1, but late and same-day registration will be accepted. The registration fee of $150 includes half a cart rental, dinner and a souvenir item.

Tournament sponsorships are available, and all sponsors receive special recognition.

Information about participating as a player or sponsor is available at cancer.k-state.edu/newsevents/regier.html or by calling the Johnson Cancer Research Center at 785-532-6705.

The Johnson Cancer Research Center supports and advances Kansas State University cancer research and education. Its programs are made possible by private donations.
