Buiding History
The Power Plant at K-State was built between 1927 and 1928, replacing an 1882 power house located in the shop area north of Seaton Hall. Designed in a pseudo-Gothic style with native limestone, the building reflects the architectural character of surrounding campus structures from that era. Notably, the west facade facing N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive remains incomplete.
The Power Plant's utilities function operates 24/7, providing essential services such as heating, cooling, electricity, and steam to the campus. In recent years, several additional cooling systems have been installed. The building also underwent major renovations in 2022 to accommodate various departments within the Division of Facilities.
