Building History

Dickens Hall was established in 1908 and originally housed the Departments of Horticulture, Botany and Plant Pathology. The building is named after Albert Dickens, a prominent member of the Department of Horticulture who served from 1899 to 1930.

Historically, greenhouses were located behind the building to support horticultural and plant science activities. These greenhouses were demolished in the 1980s to make way for the construction of the Chemistry/Biochemistry Building. Today, Dickens Hall remains an important part of the university's academic and historical landscape.
