K-State is now following in those footsteps with our own official tartan. The official K-State Tartan, The Denison, was created in spring of 2016 as part of a student design competition. The competition paired up students from the College of Human Ecology's Apparel and Textiles Design program and asked them to create a tartan design that represented the traditions and legacy of Kansas State University. 23 students competed in the challenge as part of the computer aided design course lead by former instructor and K-State alumnus Kelsie Doty.

"It was a privilege to help students while establishing this new tradition for K-State," Doty said.

"I am proud that we could use a student learning experience to generate academic scholarship funding for Kansas State University students," said Barbara Anderson, head of the Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design department in the College of Human Ecology.

The Denison was designed by former students Virginia Davis of Manhattan, KS and Lydia Lee of Korea and is registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The tartan can be purchased at these retailers and a percentage of each sale will go towards the Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design program.
