Staff pay structures
Pay grades group jobs with similar market value using external salary data. When organized into well-designed pay structures, these grades provide a consistent framework for compensation across the university.
K-State's staff job architecture uses two formal pay structures: Structure A (Administrative) and Structure B (Research). Each job title within the job architecture is assigned to one of these pay structures and a specific pay grade. Every pay grade has an established minimum, midpoint and maximum pay rate that defines the full salary range for jobs assigned to that grade. Each pay grade is designed to be inclusive of both starting pay and potential progression over time.
Human Resources Compensation and Organizational Effectiveness reviews position descriptions and determines the appropriate job title based on the position's duties and responsibilities. The determined job title corresponds to a defined pay grade and pay range.
Each pay grade is divided into four quartiles: FY26 quartiles (pdf). For descriptions detailing guidelines for paying within each quartile, please visit Pay Placement Within the Range.
FY26 staff pay grades (pdf) remain in effect.
