Pay Changes for Current Employees

Compensation changes for current employees are intended to recognize meaningful changes in work responsibilities, skills or other compensable factors while maintaining internal equity and consistency across the organization. Pay adjustments may be appropriate when an employee assumes permanent expanded duties, experiences a significant increase in compensable factors associated with their role or takes on temporary additional responsibilities that warrant extra compensation.

Salary Increase Moratorium

A moratorium is in place for all permanent base salary increase requests for faculty and staff and for staff position reclassifications. The moratorium supports implementation of the compensation study and will be in effect May 15-December 31, 2026.

Requests for exceptions should be submitted only in critical circumstances that support business needs such as key employee retention adjustments. HR managers and budget/fiscal officers are authorized to submit exception requests through the online review form.

  • Permanent mid-year base salary increase
    • Mid-year base salary increases may be requested outside the regular compensation cycle when there is an urgent need such as retention of key staff or faculty or to correct internal equity issues. During the moratorium, base salary increases are only considered under rare circumstances and first require full approval through the exception request process.
  • Pay adjustments for employees with temporary duties assignments
    • When employees are assigned significant additional work that is outside the scope of their job title for a period of time more than 30 days, they may be compensated for those duties by temporarily adjusting their rate of pay. • Pay changes with a reclassification
    • When a position is reclassified to a higher pay grade, the employee’s pay may be adjusted based on the new grade and applicable compensable factors. During the moratorium, reclassifications are only considered under rare circumstances and first require full approval through the exception request process before the position description will be reviewed for a determination.
