How to Be More Active Every Day
Eating healthy is important for good health, but so is being physically active. No matter your age, your body needs movement. You don’t need to spend a lot of time or money—just find ways to move that you enjoy, and do them throughout the day! Some activity is better than none, and every minute counts.
How Much Activity Do I Need?
- Adults: Aim for 150 minutes of activity each week, about 30 minutes for at least 5 days. Short bursts of activity are good, too!
- Kids: Children need 60 minutes of activity every day. Active play is fun and healthy for them!
Tips for Moving More
- Start Slow: If you’re new to exercise, start with just 10 minutes and build up.
- Walking: Walk when you can! Walk with your kids to school or take a brisk walk during your lunch break.
- Community Activities: Join local walks or fitness classes. These can be fun and free!
- Move More: Take the stairs, park farther away, or walk around while talking on the phone.
- Strengthen Muscles: Try yoga, stretching, or lifting light weights a couple of times a week to build muscles.
- Find a Buddy: Exercise with a friend or family member to keep you motivated.
- Be Active at Any Age: You don’t need a gym! Play outside, walk with your kids, or use a workout video at home.
The key is to move more, and it doesn’t have to be hard. Small changes add up, and everyone benefits from being more active!
