Public Transit as a Driver of Equity

This presentation uses detailed on-board transit survey data to demonstrate how public transportation serves as a force for inclusion in a community.  The data explores who is riding transit and for what purposes and demonstrates the importance of supporting transit services as a driver of equity within a community.

Greg Newmark is an associate research professor of civil engineering.  He is particularly interested in the provision and management of public transit services (and used to work at Chicago’s Regional Transportation Authority).  Dr. Newmark’s research emphasizes the innovative use of data to understand public transportation as well as the collection of those data.  He is working with the Transportation Secure Data Center (TSDC) to build an archive of on-board survey data from transit systems across the country.
