Paper bags tests, parasols, and skin-lightening creams: A discussion for those who experience colorism

For many people of color in academia, they rarely get to have an opportunity to discuss issues of discrimination withn racial or ethinic groups. In this facilitated dialogue, people of color will have an opportunity to share their experiences of colorism* inside and outside of K-State, discuss how colorism impacts their work and how we may be unconsciously participating in the cycle, and the steps we can take to combat colorism in our homes and local communities.

| Tara Coleman is the Program Services Coordinator for K-State Libraries and is the Co-Coordinator of the Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies. She also serves as a university ombudsperson and is the coordinator for the university’s common reading program, the K-State First Book.
