Join the Chapman Center for an afternoon of interdisciplinary scholarship focused on the past, present, and future of rural life. This showcase features three 15-minute presentations followed by a major grant announcement.

Featured Research

  • Hungry Heartlands: An exploration of food narratives and rural identity presented by Dr. Padilla Carroll and Tom Hallaq.

  • Crafting Dignity: Dr. Alisa Garni shares insights from her new ethnographic study on Latin American immigrants working on Kansas dairy farms and their vital role in rural communities.

  • The Logan Life Project: A multidisciplinary team including Drs. Barlett, Bailey, Irving, Cornelison, Kaup, and Trase McQueen will share preliminary findings on their collaborative research.

2026 IRG Announcement

The showcase will culminate in the announcement of the 2026 Interdisciplinary Research Grant (IRG) Recipient. This prestigious award supports faculty and students as they bridge departmental lines to study the complex stories of the Great Plains.
