MARY KOHN

Executive Director

Mary Kohn is a Professor in English and Director of the Chapman Center for Rural Studies at Kansas State University. As a sociolinguist, her work examines regional and social variation in language with a focus on the Great Plains. At the Chapman Center, Dr. Kohn works to bring faculty, students, and community members together to tell the stories of rural Kansas and to launch the research that will help rural communities thrive.

When Mary's not busy at work, she loves to spend time with her family, trying out new recipes or practicing new aerial moves.

Office Specialist II

Laura is the Center’s Office Specialist. Originally from Manhattan, Laura brings a strong background in administrative operations, program coordination, and team support backed by a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University.

When Laura's not tackling to-do lists, you can find her playing volleyball, chasing sunshine, and hanging out with her two teenage daughters. She’s also a die-hard playlist curator and a lover of all things bright, bold, and beautifully extra.

Communications and Marketing Assistant

Laura is the communications specialist for the Center and helps write content for the website and blog. She aids in event planning and project coordination. Experienced in digital marketing and advertising, Laura creates brand awareness for the Center’s new mission.

Oiginally from Los Angeles, California, she graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Communications focused in Journalism. Laura’s handsome boys and beautiful twin girls keep her happy and BUSY. She joined our team in 2019 and continues to keep our voice alive.

Assistant Editor

Bradley is a PhD student in the History department, studying politics during the Great Depression era in the United States. He has worked as a Research Assistant for the Chapman Center since the summer of 2016.

Brad enjoys being the Assistant Editor of the Online Journal of Rural Research and Policy and has been rockin' this role since the Fall of 2016. In his spare time, he is passionate about jazz music and kickboxing.
