Sample reader card format was reviewed. Suggestions:
Add MINOR(S) – colleges can use or not.
Add space for PHONETIC PRONUNCIATION.
Add GRADUATION HONORS, HONORS PROGRAM COMPLETION.
Send to colleges in CSV format so colleges can print cards in size and format they prefer.
Processing minors for completion
minors will only be processed from spreadsheets in the correct format. Minors processing staff are required to attend the Minors Processing training sessions (April 9 or May 27) to prepare for the June 4 submission deadline.
Encourage departments to come to training.
Graduate School is also looking at spreadsheet process.
Advisor name and email has been added to two graduation reports.
Update access for Spring 2010 graduation will be turned off on June 4.
MATH 100/101, FSHS 010, 011, 012 (Delker)
A proposal to offer MATH 100 College Algebra (Traditional format) and MATH 101 College Algebra (Studio format) has raised concerns about offering the same course under two course numbers. FS/AAC referred to the iSIS Task Force to determine if there are ways iSIS can be used to facilitate enrollment without adding MATH 101.
Concerns about MATH 100 as currently configured:
Scheduling MATH 100 is confusing and time consuming. It is difficult to distinguish between traditional and studio formats because students who use iSIS class search usually don’t use “Additional Search Criteria,” nor do they know to click on the “Section” to get more details about a class. The component (LEC, REC, QZ) scheduled first impacts the ease with which the remaining component are scheduled. Many students are unaware of the Registrar’s online course schedule, which more clearly delineates traditional and studio sections.
Concerns about MATH 100/101:
What changes will have to be made to accommodate equivalent courses with different numbers in DARS, iSIS, requisites, transfer equivalencies (at K-State and other institutions)? Registrar recommends not using different numbers for same courses.
Consensus was that a technical solution would be preferable to adding MATH 101. Ideas discussed:
Make “Additional Search Criteria” always open in Class Search.
Train students to search by LOCATION and COMPONENT in Additional Search.
Use data classification. Add alpha code to course number.
Add link to Registrar’s online Course Schedule.
Consult Math Dept. about class set-up. (Bennett: label traditional or studio in TOPIC; make topic searchable.)
Refer to technical staff; revisit in April.
Other Concerns
Students do NOT click on “details.” There are too many places with “Details” and no consistency in placement. For HOLDS, instead of using “Details” can holds be hotlinked so students can click on “Holds” and go to appropriate site?
Why is the Federal IPEDS survey in a different place than the State CENSUS survey? (IPEDS survey was preconstructed.)
Brainstorming Session Discussion (Carlin, Crow)
The compilation of topics from the iSIS Task Force Brainstorming Session (Feb 10, 2010) was reviewed.
Advising: Link to DARS, Term History, etc. from Advisor Page
Train advisors to set up favorites. Link to DARS from Self Service. Add link to Term History in Self Service.
Advising: Can’t see a student’s plan in another college.
Security issue; need to unlink view of plan from permission.
Advising: Names and birth date displayed so people can be easily identified (when there are multiple students by the same name).
Need to know exactly which search. Suggestion: adding student plan would help.
Advising: Grad App report does not include advisor name.
Advisor name has been added to two graduation reports.
Advising: Lifting flags needs to be easier.
Icon to remove flag has been added to advisee list. See InfoTech Tuesday, March 2.
User Feedback: Get students’ point of view
Starting to do this with K-State 8.
User Feedback: Online customer feedback capability is needed.
Exists – who will receive feedback and monitor action?
Roles/Access: Role distinctions/access are getting the way of doing work.
Detail and summary report have been provided. “This is a big issue across all areas; a security administrator is needed.”
Usability: Ability to download Excel spreadsheets.

Usability: Transcript (unofficial) rather than Academic History would be preferred.
Will look at developing unofficial transcript. This is a big issue.
Usability/Defaults: Final Exam Schedule should show up in Class Schedule (day/time)
Currently being tested; may be available in October 2010 for Spring 2011.
Other: Need a work-flow calendar as a reminder of important dates (“Purple Calendar)
Registrar’s Office will address.
Other: Who to call for support? (e.g., printing)
iTAC? Need to update liaison chart with personnel changes.
Other: Need a common glossary.
There is a glossary in iSIS Help. (Not sufficient.) This is a major project and an issue all across campus.
