University
General Education (UGE) was approved by Faculty Senate with the understanding
that it would be
formally assessed and evaluated. Such information will be important to the
Kansas Board of Regents, the
university's accrediting organizations, as well as to Kansas State administrators,
faculty, and students. In
order to make an informed decision about the future of the UGE program,
data will be needed related to
two general areas:
A. Phase I: Assessment of Student Achievement of UGE Goals
Have the following three major goals for student achievement been met?
Critical and Analytical Thinking
Communication Skills (reading, writing, formal speaking, group communication)
Educated Habits (lifelong learning, breadth, intellectual curiosity)
B. Phase II: Assessment of Process
1. UGE Course Evaluation: The 5-Year Course Review
Are the courses consistent with what was approved?
2. UGE Program Process Evaluation:
Have College programs been implemented as approved and are they effective?
Are enough approved courses available?
Are transfer-credit policies working effectively?
Is the course approval process efficient and effective?
Do students know program requirements and purpose?
Is the committee structure efficient, effective, and a fair use of faculty time?
The Office of Assessment supports and advises the UGE Council on the 5-year Course Review Process.
Information about the UGE Course Survey is available on their website.
