University of Chicago Medicine research professional to present March 29 in Justin Hall

Xiaoyu "Robben" Su, Ph.D., has been named a Rising Professional for the department of food, nutrition, dietetics and health in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
The Rising Professional Award honors significant contributions made by a graduate in the early stages of his or her career. Recipients have demonstrated significant professional accomplishments in the areas of design, business, human behavior, teacher education, or health sciences.
Su is a medical researcher at the University of Chicago Medicine, where he conducts research to advance the diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea, a potentially serious sleep disorder that can lead to death.
Su has a long history of conducting research to cure diseases. His previously developed methods using special methods enabling him to identify and quantify the antioxidant compounds in foods that provide anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer health benefits. Using his novel methods and techniques, he has and will continue to make exceptional contributions in making medical advances in areas such as sleep apnea, cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
As part of his visit to campus Su will present "Erythropoietin Gene Upregulation by Hypobaric Hypoxia" from 10-11 a.m. Friday, March 29, in Room 115 of Justin Hall. K-State faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.

Su is a three-time K-State graduate. He received his bachelor's degree in biology and his master's and doctoral degrees in food science.
