Keith Bowers

The College of Architecture, Planning & Design announces the first Ekdahl Lecture of the spring 2024 series, featuring esteemed landscape architect Keith Bowers. The lecture is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in 1117 Regnier Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Bowers is the visionary founder and president of Biohabitats, a pioneering organization dedicated to nature-based design, green infrastructure and regenerative practices in landscape architecture. With a profound commitment to restoring the Earth and fostering ecological stewardship, Biohabitats operates at the intersection of biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation and environmental justice.

A true advocate for transformative change, Bowers has embedded principles of self-governance, wholeness and evolutionary purpose into Biohabitats' ethos. As a B-Corp and 1% for the Planet organization, Biohabitats exemplifies a new paradigm in capitalist practices.

Beyond his leadership at Biohabitats, Bowers is a prominent figure in the landscape architecture community, serving on advisory boards for prestigious institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania's Ian L. McHarg Center and the Landscape Architecture Foundation. With more than a decade of service on the Society for Ecological Restoration Board and six years on the Wildlands Network Board, Bowers's dedication to biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration is globally recognized.

Bowers holds a Bachelor of Science in landscape architecture from West Virginia University and has been bestowed an honorary degree from the Conway School of Landscape Design.

The Ekdahl Lecture Series aims to ignite conversations and inspire action in the realm of landscape architecture, sustainability and ecological stewardship.
