Sophomore leadership honorary selects 2012-2013 members

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Kansas State University's sophomore leadership honorary, Silver Key, has new members for the 2012-2013 school year.

An honorary that emphasizes community service, Silver Key selects 35 to 40 freshmen each year for membership. To be eligible for Silver Key, students must have at least a 3.0 grade point average. The new initiates also had to be 2011 high school graduates and currently in their freshman year at K-State.

Members organize and participate in a variety of community service activities throughout the year that benefit the K-State campus and the surrounding Manhattan community. Past projects include highway cleanup, food drives and helping children and the elderly. Silver Key's signature project is the annual Sleep Out for Homeless Awareness, which raises money for the local emergency shelter.

Silver Key adviser is Carla Jones, assistant vice president and senior associate dean of student life.
