'Flying on the Heels of Tap Shoes': Aerial filming of dance performance published by Dunn and Pentz

Submitted by Julie L. Pentz

Neil Dunn and Julie L. Pentz, from the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, have had their article "Flying on the Heels of Tap Shoes: Aerial Filming of Dance Performance" published in the Journal of Dance Education in Practice.

Dunn and Pentz collaborated to film and publish a tap dance performance with the K-State Tap Dance Ensemble in 2020.

The article features the process of using the drone to film an outdoor performance of the K-State Tap Dance Ensemble performance and the detailed steps they took surrounding the idea of filming tap dance in hopes that others might adopt or adapt these processes. This kind of work crosses dance sectors into the independent and K-12 sectors and aligns with the mission of the National Dance Educators Organization, "Dance education for ALL."

Dunn and Pentz hope to inspire this innovative work to artists across the world, reaching dance educators across the globe.
