Digby recognized as certified movement analyst and registered somatic movement educator and therapist

Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Kate Digby, associate professor and associate director for dance in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, was recently granted the professional credentials of registered somatic movement therapist and registered somatic movement educator by the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association in recognition of her extensive training and practice in somatic movement.

As part of the portfolio demonstrating eligibility for the credentials, Digby completed a 520-hour graduate certificate in Laban Movement Analysis through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Analysis in New York City, granting her the title of certified movement analyst. Digby is also a Yoga Alliance certified yoga instructor, and a certified instructor of Moving for Life, BodyMind Dancing, and The Batdorf Technique in addition to holding an Master of Fine Arts in dance.

Digby shares somatic approaches with the K-State community through courses in the dance program, most notably Dance 705/Movement: Fundamentals, Analysis and Observation — open to both graduate and undergraduate students in even numbered spring semesters, including spring 2024. Learn more about Digby.
