Wayne Goins, university distinguished professor of music, published "Track By Track: Sean McGowan Reflects on His Latest CD, 'Portmanteau,'" an in-depth, exclusive interview on fingerstyle jazz guitar virtuoso Sean McGowan in the October 2023 issue of Jazz Guitar Life, a highly popular online jazz guitar journal that features the most prominent artists in the world.

Goins wrote a combined interview and CD review on McGowan, focusing on the recording/performing process surrounding the University of Colorado Denver professor's new album, "Portmanteau," as well as the compositional approaches to each individual tune. The article is the first in a new series, "Track By Track," created for Goins by website editor Lyle Robinson. Goins writes regularly for the website, submitting a wide variety of pieces, including exclusive jazz artist profiles, CD reviews, podcast interviews and feature articles related to jazz recordings on vinyl.

Goins is the director of jazz studies at Kansas State University. He has performed with such greats as legendary guitarist Kenny Burrell, alto saxophonist Bobby Watson, trumpeter Clark Terry, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, organist Jimmy McGriff and many others. He has authored a number of award-winning books and articles. Learn more about Goins.
