Student group to host celebration for 76th Independence Day of India
The Indian Student Association, a registered affiliated student organization, invites the university community, family and friends to celebrate the 76th Independence Day of India on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
Indian Independence Day is celebrated every year as a reminder of the country's pride, virtues, cultural richness, diversity and history.
Claudia Petrescu, vice provost for graduate education and dean of the Graduate School, will serve as the distinguished chief guest for the event. Anil Pahwa, university distinguished professor of electrical and computer engineering, will deliver a keynote address.
A short flag-hoisting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 at Long's Park — 17th Steet and Yuma Street in Manhattan. The ceremony will be followed by a short speech from the guests.
