Deadline approaching for Week of Welcome volunteer team registration

Submitted by Center for Student Involvement

Week of Welcome Fall 2020 is going to be unlike any we've had on campus, and it is going to take the entire K-State family.

What is traditionally a one-week series of programs, is being adjusted to multiple weeks because of the residence hall move-in schedule and physical distancing limitations. The added length of time provides a great opportunity to provide students an outstanding experience their first few weeks on campus.

The WOW volunteer team will play a critical role in welcoming our students to campus, some for the first time and others after a very challenging spring and summer. Team members will also serve as a great connector for students to the many resources available to them on campus to ensure they are successful for the coming semester. WOW volunteer team members will be asked to fill the following roles:

  • Staff certain WOW events and activities.
  • Greet students at events and welcome them to campus — be the smiling face of the university.
  • Encourage students to check out other events and activities happening throughout the WOW.
  • Answer questions and provide directions.
  • Help students feel like they belong on campus and as part of our community.

To clearly identify volunteer team members in the crowd, all members who sign up to volunteer a minimum of two hours throughout the three weeks of programs will receive a free T-shirt. The deadline to sign up is Friday, July 17.

Those interested in serving on the volunteer team can sign up online. Questions can be directed to Kellifarris@k-state.edu
