HandsOn Kansas State remembers 9/11 with annual communitywide Day of Service today

By Communications and Marketing

HandsOn Kansas State will host its annual 9/11 Day of Service on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in honor of the 9/11 victims, survivors and first responders.

From 4 to 7 p.m., volunteers will distribute food for local families in need. Volunteers also will provide nutrition education and other information about community resources. The event takes place in the east parking lot of Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Families may show up during the designated time to receive food and resources.

All students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to volunteer. Interested volunteers should meet in the east parking lot at 3 p.m. to help set up. Volunteers are also needed to help clean up and take any leftover food to local food banks.

"Our hope at HandsOn Kansas State is to engage the student body to care about the needs of the community surrounding us and empower it to meet those needs; I’m always inspired by how quickly the K-State family mobilizes to make that happen," said Ross Allen, event co-coordinator and junior in philosophy and economics, Soldier.

The Day of Service is recognized by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

HandsOn Kansas State, a program through the university's School of Leadership Studies, creates opportunities for people to volunteer, learn and lead in their communities. The organization is a national affiliate of the HandsOn Network, an international nonprofit organization that connects action centers to more than 250 communities.
