Kansas Board of Regents January meeting agenda items

Submitted by Cindy Bontrager

Dear K-State Community,

The Kansas Board of Regents will meet Jan. 16 at the Curtis State Office Building in Topeka. The board will consider the following agenda items during the meeting.

Randy Watson, commissioner of education, will update the Regents on the Kansas Department of Education.

Blake Flanders, president and CEO of the Kansas Board of Regents, will present the annual Foresight 2020 progress report.

The Regents will act on a request to approve seven additional courses recommended for systemwide transfer among any public university or college in Kansas offering an equivalent course. The courses recommended for systemwide transfer are American literature I and II, comparative politics, introduction to early childhood education, marriage and family, music theory II and principles of leadership. Approval of the courses will increase the number of courses available for systemwide transfer to 91.

The Regents will act on performance reports for the 2017 academic year. Institutions negotiate new performance agreements based on Foresight 2020 with the board on a three-year cycle. Each institution developed indicators that support Foresight 2020 and established a baseline for each indicator. To be eligible for any new funding appropriated, each institution must submit an annual report updating the Regents on its progress toward meeting each performance agreement indicator. K-State qualifies for 100 percent of any new funding for which it is eligible because the university maintained the baseline or improved from the baseline in at least four indicators.

The Regents will act on a nonbudgetary legislative proposal to amend a statute to allow the Regents to purchase cybersecurity insurance for the board office through the collaborative process being utilized by the state universities.
