Apparel and textiles student places in national alpaca fiber design competition

Sydney Lenox, junior in apparel and textiles, Wichita, took home third place in the apparel design category of the 15th annual North American Student Design Competition sponsored by the Alpaca Owners Association Inc.
The competition's mission is to expose college-level art, fashion and textile design students and professors to the wonders of designing with alpaca fiber.
Lenox and the other finalists were guests of honor at the 2018 Student Design Retreat at the National Fiber Extravaganza powered by the Alpaca Owners Association in Lebanon, Tennessee, in July where they were recognized for their award-winning fashion designs.
K-State provided five of the 60 fashion design entries, which were submitted from 20 fashion programs across the nation. Along with Lenox, seniors Rachel Dugger and Andrada Redmond and juniors Kaylor Nordhus and Jamie Hoffman also submitted designs. Entries were developed in a fashion presentation course instructed by Sherry Haar. K-State students have received 17 awards since 2004.
The competition is primarily self-funded through sponsorship and donations to the program by individual alpaca farms and their affiliated organizations and businesses.
Lenox's design will be spotlighted in the award-winning nationally distributed publication Alpacas Magazine.
