Registration open for statewide Tilford Conference
Register today for the statewide 2017 Michael Tilford Conference, Oct. 23-24, at Fort Hays University. Sponsored by the Kansas Board of Regents, registration is free but limited.
With many events around the world and locally, this conference is a great opportunity to gain resources and learn best practices to navigate through so many incidents for a positive outcome. The conference provides an opportunity for faculty, staff and administrators at the Kansas Board of Regents' institutions to approach diversity in higher education by examining the challenges and opportunities in Kansas including: Inspire awareness of multiple dimensions of diversity, related practices of inclusion, and the transformation of higher education in Kansas. Conference participants will be able to:
- Hear visionary leaders speak about promoting equity and awareness at your institution.
- Participate in workshops about challenges teaching diverse populations on Kansas campuses.
- Share passions for teaching and interacting with students regardless of race, gender, religion and national origin.
The conference rotates at a KBOR institution every two years and for the next two years, Fort Hays State University is serving as the host.
The conference is named in memory of the late Michael Tilford, a representative from Wichita State University serving on the Regents Diversity and Multiculturalism Committee, who died in 1996. Tilford was one of 100 African-American educators from across the country who received Ford Foundation Grants for advanced graduate study. Tilford chaired many organizations, and his committee work showed his commitment to the education of students who have been traditionally underrepresented at the university level.
