Astounding acrobatics: Pilobolus Dance Theatre coming to McCain April 24

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Pilobolus Dance Theatre, a dance company that combines athleticism with artistic grace, is ready to perform its acrobatic feats as part of Kansas State University's 2011-2012 McCain Performance Series.

The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in McCain Auditorium.

Pilobolus, named after a sun-loving fungus that grows in barnyards and pastures, is a creative, expressive and athletic group of performers. The company is highly known for its humor, stunning imagery and acrobatic skill.

"The way they intertwine their bodies to make a sculpture come to life on stage is both ingenious and mind-boggling," said Todd Holmberg, director of McCain Auditorium. "Their athletic and artistic grace is something you have got to see to believe. The evening will fill the audience with a profound sense of wonder at what they just saw."

Pilobolus has been featured in various programs, including "60 Minutes," the Academy Awards, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." The group's most recent collaboration was with the popular band OK Go, which is now a YouTube sensation.

An internationally acclaimed company, Pilobolus was nominated for a Sports Emmy for its work with the NFL Network.

Tickets are on sale now, with prices starting at $12.50 for K-State students and $25 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty and staff, military and children are also available.
