Governor visits Kansas Wheat Innovation Center, discusses agricultural partnerships

By Division of Communications and Marketing

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback visited the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center at Kansas State University on Tuesday to learn about the university's important partnerships with the wheat and sorghum industries.

The visit is part of Brownback's focus on agriculture this week to discuss opportunities to grow Kansas' agriculture industry. He also spent Tuesday afternoon at the Kansas Department of Agriculture, where he had his quarterly meeting with the Council of Economic Advisors.

At the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center, Brownback learned about important partnerships between the university, Kansas wheat farmers, the wheat industry and private companies to promote and advance wheat production. He toured the complex and also met with sorghum industry representatives to discuss research opportunities.

"It was great to have the governor here to see first-hand the investment that Kansas wheat farmers have made and to see public/private partnerships at work in Kansas," said Justin Gilpin, Kansas Wheat CEO.

Throughout the week, Brownback is visiting agricultural businesses, farmers and ranchers across Kansas to discuss opportunities related to wheat, sorghum, cotton, dairy, poultry and equipment manufacturing. Stakeholders are also discussing industry challenges, including federal policy, labor, water and more.
